Humans
The salt of the Earth. The food. The cattle. The blood bags. The dreamers. The children. The next generation. So many nicknames, and not all of them kind, the human population is out there and represents the majority of the beings on the planet. So while they may be vastly out-powered in the cosmos, they still greatly outnumber everyone else.
Humans. No Frills. Just Human.
Some say that without humans, the Earth would be in better shape; no global warming, no over population, no trash, no destruction. And there is always someone who will stand up and point out that, without humans, there would not be any supernaturals, either. Some of the best wars have been started with the simple word, "...actually." in the middle of someone's diatribe. Try it sometime and see for yourself.

Being human means there aren't a whole lot of off the bat rules like the other races. But we've got a few:

1. Master of Everything! No. Can you have gotten a double major or even a third or fourth degree in similar fields of study? Yes, but not if you're still in your 20s. Be reasonable. Same thing goes with languages. Not everyone can be a polyglot. Did you grow up with 2 or 3 languages in the house? Fine. But the average human doesn't know 4 ancient and possibly dead languages while speaking Spanish, French, and German fluently. There will be talents for Humans to take for these items- just remember to balance them out.

2. Knowing everything about all of the supernatural races isn't possible. You can know a lot, absolutely, and you can think you know everything... but just keep in mind that you don't. There's also that pesky side bit about being mouthy about it may get you killed. There are developing courses of study that teach about the various supernatural races but they are highly controversial. Even attending could get a bullseye on your back.

Age, Ability, and Talents
Humans are going to be at a disadvantage, for sure, but we will provide for some talents and "abilities" here to give you at least a teensy bit of a leg up, as it were. But at the heart of it, you're human. Going up against a supernatural creature with anything besides a high powered rifle from a very long distance is going to be dangerous at best.

General Abilities

For humans, it is rough to have a "general abilities" section that every human can do. Breathing? Yes but... what else? Not all humans can walk, see, hear, eat... humans are complicated creatures. So we're not going to have a "all humans can do these things" section. Its only here to point out we don't have one. And annoy people who hate reading. Yep.

General Weaknesses
Below are some general weaknesses that you can chose from in our story world. This is not an exhaustive list, but just some to give you a head start as you flesh out your character. It is a good idea to take a weakness for every talent you will pick from the talent list (or from your own list). Again, we're not going to be policing and requiring an application- we're all adults- so please be reasonable. Want some kind of weakness that isn't here? Ask! These are not only for Humans- all races can take these it just made sense to list them here.

Physical Ailment (Minor): You walk with a significant limp, you have a frozen shoulder, are slightly hard of hearing in one ear, you have to wear glasses with a significant prescription. These are all in the minor ailment department to give you some flavor when going up against someone else in a task for feat.

Physical Ailment (Major): You're blind, deaf, or missing a limb. This would also count for significant, but treatable, diseases such as diabetes, allergies that require medical intervention, or any auto-immune diseases. Again, taking something here adds flavor between characters when working out items.

Mental Factors: This could be anything from undiagnosed seasonal depression to so far down the spectrum that you're non-verbal. Play it how you wish- but be respectful. This isn't the opportunity to exploit 'crazy' to get a few laughs.

Phobia (Real): What we mean by "real" here is, well, everyone can be afraid of something. This is a true phobia. Like for people who see earthworms and uncontrollably scream and cry and have to get away from it because they're terrified to the bone of them.

Totally Tasty: Your blood tastes like nirvana to a vampire- your scent is intoxicating to shifters- Fae find you irresistible- casters who get ahold of your blood would drain you for the reagent value. It may seem nifty at first, until they start stalking you- and then kidnap you- and then.. well. Sorry.

Addiction: You have a very real addiction be it to drugs, drink, food, anime, porn, gambling.. it can be anything but it absolutely is the focus of your almost every thought.

Dark Secret(s): You have a secret of such magnitude that it would ruin your life, and not in the teenaged "omg my life is over, Jeff likes Theresa and not me"! kinda way. This is the 'I murdered my neighbor' kinda level secret that, if found out, would literally be the end of you.

Overconfident: You do things that would make the producers of Jackass say no. Not only risky actions, but you are known to size up supernaturals and face off with people you shouldn't. Sometimes it pays off and they back down, but one of these days, you're going to write a check you can't cash.

Absent-Minded: You would forget your own name if it wasn't embroidered on your underwear. You not only can't remember why you walked into the kitchen, but you may forget what room it is until you stare at the sink for a minute. This is NOT a mental acuity flaw, indeed, most people who are absent-minded simply have too many things in their heads at once and displace a couple. Regularly.

Amnesia: True amnesia used to be very rare... but magic has changed that landscape. Amnesia can be a weakness you take from tiny to huge gaps depending on how it happened.

Weak-Willed: IMPORTANT NOTE: If you take weak willed, you are consenting to mind, dream, and persuasive magic being used on you more successfully than others. You can still resist something that would be completely out of your nature (Like trying to force you to eat meat if you were a strict vegetarian and the thought revolted you to the core) but you are intentionally exposing yourself to be easily manipulated.

Cursed: You're cursed. Literally. It can be something as simple as being unable to say "I Love You" without suffering intense abdominal pain to having the world's most offensive body odor. Be creative! Especially supernaturals who can take this weakness. Nothing like a feline shifter without a tail.

Uneducated / Illiterate: You either missed out on the opportunity for formal education (including home schooling) or you were just not smart enough to learn how to read or write.

Accident Prone: You have no physical ailments nor mental ones, your attention span is just fine and you weren't cursed.... but you've tripped over your own feet at least once this week and you've broken fingers, wrists, arms, and even your nose once or twice stepping over something. Not a day goes by you don't have a new bandaid somewhere.

Haunted: You are 100% actually haunted by a ghost. It could be human, supernatural, animal, or just energy that has no explanation. You don't necessarily need to even realize it- but you do need to make it known so those who can see/interact with Ghosts can RP with it.

Available Talents

Below are some of the more common talents that humans ave available to them. You may choose a couple of these to make your character more unique. Don't take them all. Remember, the older you are, the more likely it is you have learned more and gotten better.

Double Major: Most people get a Bachelor's degree and that's it. That wasn't enough for you. Whether it was super brains, or you're a lifelong, professional student, you have a couple BA or BS degrees and perhaps a Masters or two. Maybe even a PhD if they are all in the same field. Keep in mind how long it takes to obtain these degrees. Again- be reasonable. The youngest PhD in modern era was 15 with an IQ of 210. These are RARE people. Now if you want multiple Masters or PhDs in Literature, Art History, Languages.. that's one thing. Multiples in hard science less so- especially if you're under 50.

Polyglot: Languages come very easy to you. You can pick up a new language with submersion techniques in as short as three to four weeks. Are you completely fluent? Probably not. But you can get away with multiple languages and are definitely fluent in entire families of languages.

Animal Companion: You have a pet that is smarter than the average pet and you've trained to do things for you. Everything from opening drawers in the kitchen to doors in the house and fetching things from the other room to maybe even delivering a message to a single person to whom they've been trained to do this. This is NOT a service animal for those who take that flaw and require one.

True Faith: Whatever the faith is, you believe it so fully that it will protect you from true evil. So what does that mean exactly? Vampires don't tend to want to feed on you- Shifters find you a calming influence to their animal nature (even if you're an infuriating person)- Fae find you lacking of any of the Dreamstuff(Tm) they thrive on- etc. It won't protect you from your actions- but in general, the supernatural just tend to leave you be.

Really Revolting: Vampires throw up when they taste your blood- you smell so bad to shifters that they walk across the street to get away from you- Fae act like you're made of solid metal- witches who try to cast in your presence find their reagents just shrivel up and are useless. You're like a black pit of awful to the supernatural community. You thought you might become a hunter until you realized even that tipped them off.
